We are thrilled to bring you another update on our ongoing rugby project in Uganda! As part of our sponsorship initiative, our player Matej Ojvan continues his journey in Kuffu, working alongside the volunteers from I Bambini di Antonio to introduce the children to the sport of rugby.
Progress and Enthusiasm on the Field
Since the initial introduction to rugby, the excitement among the students has grown tremendously. The second round of Mixed Flag Rugby sessions at Kuffu School saw even greater engagement, with over 35 to 40 students eagerly joining the training. The sports teachers, Tony and Matej, focused on enhancing essential rugby skills, such as ball handling, quick decision-making, and teamwork. With every session, the children’s passion and athletic potential shine through. It is incredible to witness how quickly they grasp new techniques and apply them in small-sided games. Their enthusiasm and determination are truly inspiring! đđ„
Thanks to the generous support of BSV 1892 Rugby Club, the students are training with proper rugby equipment. These resources are making a real difference, allowing the children to learn and play in a structured and enjoyable way. The impact of sports on their confidence and team spirit is already visible.
Community Engagement & Next Steps
The school staff and local community members have shown great interest in further integrating rugby into their sports curriculum. Moving forward, the focus will be on:
- Expanding training sessions to include more age groups
- Organizing a friendly match to showcase the students‘ progress
- Providing further training for the local teachers to continue the rugby initiative in our project
